Treatment Philosophy - 3 Pillars Approach
2. Neuromuscular Function - We assess initiation, strength, and endurance of the muscles and region of interest, as well as the rest of the body.
- Does the shoulder stabilize properly lifting an object and are the muscles strong enough to lift the object? Does the core also stabilize when lifting the object? Do you have the required endurance to carry the object?
3. Motor Control - Can the overall movement or activity be performed with the correct neuromuscular function of the injured or dysfunctional region?
Manual therapy and Neuromuscular re-education are imperative to address prior to beginning whole body exercise or movement to ensure the joint and tissue health is ready to take on the load and/or the demand of full body movement and high level activity. The parts make up the whole!
We believe that there are three pillars that are foundational to movement that we focus on during evaluation and treatment. These pillars allow us to strategically and systematically create individualized plans of care for each and every patient.
1. Mechanical - we believe that mechanical dysfunction of tissue or joints leads to improper movement, limited range of motion, and can cause pain.
- Is the joint limited due to swelling, tearing, inflammatory process, scarring, muscle tension, etc?
